Your Ledger Live download choice is really two choices: which version of the app to use, and how it will connect to your Ledger device. This guide explains the Ledger Live download options for desktop and mobile use, how each version connects, which one fits your routine, and how to check that you have the real app. This site is informational and is not affiliated with Ledger.
Ledger Live runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and on iOS and Android. All versions are free and each one talks to the same Ledger hardware wallets. The difference is where you get them and how they connect.
The desktop versions come from ledger.com. Type the address yourself and choose the version for your system. The macOS version is not in the Mac App Store.
On iPhone, use the Apple App Store, and on Android, use Google Play. Open the listing from a link on ledger.com, and check that it is published by Ledger. An Android APK should only come from ledger.com.
Desktop connects by USB. Bluetooth is used only between a Nano X (and, where Ledger supports it, newer devices) and the mobile app. The table gives the overview, and current compatibility is on ledger.com.
| Version | Where it comes from | Connection to the device | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Desktop on Windows, macOS or Linux | ledger.com | USB | First setup, device updates, managing accounts |
| Mobile on iOS | Apple App Store | Bluetooth with a Nano X | Balance checks and approvals away from a desk |
| Mobile on Android | Google Play | Bluetooth with a Nano X; USB where supported, check ledger.com | Balance checks and approvals away from a desk |
If your device does not have Bluetooth, the desktop version is the simplest choice for sending and managing accounts. Whether a USB connection works on a particular phone depends on the phone and the device, so check ledger.com before relying on a phone-only routine.
The current devices are the Nano S Plus, Nano X, Ledger Flex and Ledger Stax. The original Nano S is discontinued, although existing devices still work.
You do not have to choose only one. Many owners use the desktop version for setup and larger jobs and the mobile version for everyday checks.
Install the app on both and connect the same Ledger device to each. Your accounts come from the keys on the device, not from a cloud account, so you add them on each installation. Adding an account again does not move any funds.
If you mainly check balances on a phone, the mobile app may be enough, provided your device supports the connection you need.
On a shared or work computer, others may see account names and balances. A personal computer is a better place for your crypto, and a password lock in the app adds local protection.
Most problems come from the source of the app or from what people type into it.
Ledger Live will never ask you to enter your 24-word recovery phrase. Restoring a wallet happens on the device, and any page or app asking for the words is a scam.
Sponsored results and lookalike pages can sit above the real result. Typing ledger.com avoids that.
If your system blocks an installer, do not bypass it or turn off your protection. Delete the file, download again from ledger.com and contact Ledger Support through the official site if the problem repeats.
Run these checks before you trust a new installation. Keep your device ready.
Open ledger.com directly, not through an ad or a message.
Choose desktop or mobile on the official page and follow its store links on a phone.
On the App Store and Google Play, the listing should be the one published by Ledger and linked from ledger.com.
Connect your device and confirm access on its screen. The app should not ask for your recovery phrase.
Open Receive and make sure the same address is shown on the device before you share it.
System requirements, supported coins and device compatibility change between releases. The reference for current details is ledger.com. Updating does not move your keys off the device.
Yes. There are desktop versions for Windows, macOS and Linux and mobile versions for iOS and Android. Add your accounts on each installation by connecting the device.
Use ledger.com, the Apple App Store or Google Play. Ledger Live does not ask for your 24-word recovery phrase during installation or setup, so close anything that does.
No. The recovery phrase and keys stay on the device. On a new phone or computer, install Ledger Live, connect the device and add your accounts. Do not enter the recovery phrase in the app.
Unlock the device with your PIN, use a data-capable cable and connect it directly, close other wallet apps, and restart the app. On a phone with a Nano X, check that Bluetooth is on and that the device is not connected to another phone.
Bluetooth works with a Nano X, and with newer devices where Ledger supports it. For other models, check ledger.com for the current compatibility before you plan on using a phone.
Yes. Each desktop system and each phone system has its own version. Get them only from ledger.com and the official app stores.
